Well folks it’s that time again! Will we be disappointed with Sony again? Ah well, Mark 12th June until the day before Raya itself! This is going to be a fun ride.

One thing bugging me about the Nintendo Switch

In 2 months time, the Switch will have reached it’s 1 year old anniversary. Over the past 10 months, we have seen amazing games being released along side. Bolstered by the fact that it is basically the hottest selling console as well in it’s 10 months of life, almost daily there’s a new Switch user either in Malaysia or even around the world.

However, I have noticed that is getting much harder to ignore as of late: The Switch is Nintendo’s most vulnerable console ever released.

I have been monitoring for the past 10 months when it comes to the Switch. From my own side of things, I have had customers who reported faulty joy cons mainly. To a certain extent, some Switches have also experienced the curved issue with the screen and the body due to the heat. Another have also came to me saying that their digitizer seems to have popped off from the body itself.

If it was one or two, I didn’t mind. But having seen more than 5 cases out of my sold units the past 10 months alone, I’m quite shocked. The Wii wasn’t like this. The WiiU wasn’t like this. The 3DS, though does have it’s share of issues, wasn’t like this either.

It’s funny how I’ve always believed that Nintendo releases sturdy quality consoles. It is rare to hear from someone that they had issues with their consoles immediately even. I usually can even tell people that the console is strong and sturdy and will last you for a very very long time.

Unfortunately, even my own personal Switch is going through the same issue with the Joy Con. The Sponge trick might work but I haven’t had the time to even open my joy cons yet.

As such, I would like to remind everyone that if it is possible, do make sure to get warranty from your preferred seller. For Malaysians, it would be best if it was covered by Maxsoft Pte Ltd for at least a year. Just make sure your seller states that it is an Asian unit and it does come with the warranty. Though different sellers may have different terms and conditions, the units should come with the warranty free of charge.

What’s your experience so far? Have you had to gone through getting a warranty claimed? Let us know in the comments section! And if you need to figure out how to claim a warranty, check back my previous post.

Kyo’s Game Mart at Amcorp Mall

Updated: 10 January 2018
For everyone who is interested to find me at Amcorp Mall, these are the things you need to remember the most:

You can find Kyo’s Game Mart at the Flea Market Section of Amcorp Mall, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Kyo loves to be at Level 2 of Amcorp Mall. Usually, it will be limited to 2 locations depending on the day of the weekend.

How to claim warranty for your Asian Nintendo Switch from Maxsoft

So you got yourself a fricking fantastic Nintendo Switch. Went on an amazing quest breathing the wild with Link, knocked off someone’s arm with Arms, raced in karts, again, in Mario Kart, and practically just waiting for an Odyssey now.

And then your Switch cari pasal with you. Or, in other words, it’s starting to give you problems.

Now, if you did buy the Asian version of the console with me or other retailers who told you that you’re eligible for a 1 Year warranty with the console, then allow me to show you the steps of getting your Switch fixed and repaired by your sole distributor for South East Asia, Maxsoft!

Step One: Ensure you have the receipt with you from your retailer

Maxsoft’s first queries from you is that the Nintendo Switch must have been distributed by Maxsoft itself. So, they will need a proof of purchase or a receipt. When you have bought your Switch, make sure that you get a receipt. If not, how to claim lah?

Step Two: Make sure the receipt has the Serial Number for the Switch

Another consideration that you must be aware of is the Serial Number of the Nintendo Switch itself. The Serial Number can be located on the side of the box itself. This Serial Number should be written on the receipt earlier.

Side box of a Switch
See the right side of the box with the hole there? That’s the place where you can find the Serial Number for the Switch. Since this is my personal unit, of course I took that part out…

The reason why the serial number needs to be on the receipt is that Maxsoft can check if the unit is eligible or not for warranty. If it’s not a unit they distributed, you’re not getting the warranty claim.

If you don’t have the box anymore, you can check for the Serial Number through the Switch as well. Just go to System and then Serial Information and it will display the Switch’s Serial Number and the Joy Con’s Serial Number (This is important too and you must attach it to the Switch to view it)

If you somehow have the box, but can’t turn the Switch on, there’s 2 other ways.
1. The side of the box has the Switch’s Serial Number, but I’m sure you didn’t know the plastic for the Joy Cons has individual Serial Numbers as well. DON’T LOSE THIS. Due to the size of the plastic, it can be easily gone.

2. Hooking your Switch to the Parental Companion App on your Phone will also save the Serial Number of the Switch to the phone. Just in case you can’t turn on that Switch anymore and the box is missing.

It would be good to have the receipt to contain both the Switch’s Serial Number and the Joy Con’s Serial Number as well. That makes Maxsoft’s life easier.

Step Three: Contact M.M. Soft Malaysia Sdn Bhd

M.M. Soft Malaysia Sdn Bhd is the subsidiary of Maxsoft. They handle all the distribution of the Nintendo Switch consoles in the country. So, as they’re doing that, of course they’re going to be the people that you have to send the Switch. So contact them first.

How to contact them? Easy. Remember that box that you’re not supposed to throw away? Inside the box is a sheet of contact information to all 4 regions: Singapore, Malaysia, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. You only need to contact the Malaysian one.

M.M. Soft Malaysia Sdn Bhd
Tel: +603-77251552
Email: support@maxsoftonline.com

You are better off calling them first. Then they’ll probably ask you to email to them the issues and what not directly.

Step Four: Send the Switch to M.M. Soft Malaysia Sdn Bhd

Now that they have asked you to send the Switch, you can send it to them and they will handle the rest. You probably have to fill in a form. So remember to bring that receipt you got, the Switch, and the issues with it.

Step Five: Wait until they call back

Your Switch is at the mercy of the distributor. No choice left but to wait for them to contact you back in this case once it’s done. Go play another Nintendo Console while you’re at it. If you have one. If you don’t, I know who can hook you up with one. (Hint: It’s the guy who wrote this post)

Step Six: Switch repaired, collection time!

Once they told you it’s done, go take it!

And that’s all there is to it when it comes to claiming your warranty for the Switch. Nothing hard, just that you need to be prepared with it.

If you have any queries about the Switch or specific queries about the warranty, feel free to ask me at kyos.game.mart@gmail.com. I’ll try to get back to you the soonest I can. 🙂

What’s Missing from the Nintendo Switch Presentation earlier

So you know the Switch is coming on 3rd March 2017 (SABAR LAH ON THE PREORDERS), and it’s retailing for USD 299 or 29,990 Yen (SABARLAH ON THE RINGGIT PRICE), and you also know the games that are basically coming to the Switch on launch date (DON’T YOU EVEN START WITH ME).

But truth there is a whole lot of information that was not announced or missed announcement or just that Nintendo didn’t have enough time to cover during the presentation earlier. So, here are some of them! (At least)

Nintendo Switch Accessory Pricing

Interestingly, Nintendo was kind enough to tell you how much it costs. Because, you know. Everyone wants to know how much it’s going to be. But what about the rest of the items? Well, I got the US info. So, tread lightly.

Nintendo Joy Con (Each side): USD 49.99 or USD 79.99 for left and right bundled together.

Nintendo Switch Pro Controller: USD 69.99

Nintendo Switch Extra Dock: USD 90 (This comes with the dock, the adapter, and the HDMI cable)

I don’t know about you, but I’m in the opinion that these prices are pretty expensive for accessories. You’d have to forkout another 80 bucks for controllers (Don’t  even ask me in RM) And the Dock is somewhat… pricey. I’m open to docking my Switch in say another room. However, for another 90 bucks to do that, urm, I think I’ll do that if I feel richer at least.

The Switch’s Specs

Ah yes, they showed off the Joy Con, but not what the Switch is all about. Ok, so, on it’s own and not docked, it runs at 720p on Stereo. There’s a headphone jack underneath for you to plug in your stereo.

When docked, you get 1080p with 5.1 Surround. Ok lah. Not too bad for this day and age. But be warned, games like Breath of the Wild can only eek out 900p even when it’s docked. As to why, beats the hell out of me. The WiiU version might be superior in this case.

There’s 32GB storage in the Switch. Which… at this day and age could be insufficient. But you can expand it with a microsdhc which can possibly go up to… believe it or not, 2 Terrabytes.

The Joy Cons may be chargable through USB. What USB, we don’t know yet because the Switch will require it to be on USB C at least.

Owh batterylife! Undocked it will run from 2.5 hours to 6.5 hours. Abysmal? Maybe for people who actually have too much time. I don’t. So it’s just right. Just don’t bring it for a long flight then.

What wasn’t mentioned if it’s possible for left handed users to actually play the game with left handed game controls. Just saying.

And that’s probably what was not informed during the presentation.

1 2 Switch is not bundled with the Nintendo Switch

By the look of things, and from the package that you saw earlier, there was no mention of software being bundled with the Switch… yet. This has not been confirmed yet though. As certain regions may not have the game bundled with it as a start. Huge missed opportunity if this was the case Nintendo. Not kidding.

Here’s a cover on how the games coming for the Switch looks like

Polygon detailed a whole list of game cover art for the Switch. The only thing is, they didn’t know how big it will look like. So, here’s one for the blog. The rest you can see from the link above.

The games they didn’t announce during the presentation but is coming

You saw the presentation, but you didn’t get formally introduced to the games. Here’s what you may have missed then:

Just Dance 2017 and Skylanders Imaginators are ready during the Launch Date

Has Been Heroes (March 2017)
Sonic Mania (Spring 2017)
Lego City Undercover (Spring 2017)
Super Bomberman R (March 2017) Note: It’s a Konami game. Cough.
Snipperclips: Cut It Out, Together!  (March 2017)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (28 April 2017)
NBA 2K18 (September 2017)
Puyo Puyo Tetris
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers ( I SWEAR TO GOD)
Disgaea 5 Complete
Fast RMX
Rayman Legends Definitive Edition
Project Sonic 2017
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
2 Minecraft titles for the Switch
Farming Simulator (DA FAK?)
Arcade Archives
Syberia 3
The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth +
New Frontier Days
Nobunaga no Yabou ( I seriously though I saw Ryuga Gotoku from this. haha)

Well, that’s a whole lotta games. And some I don’t even know what the hell is it.

You are getting Free Games with Nintendo’s Online Subscription program

Much like the PS Plus or the Xbox Live, Nintendo’s Online Subscription program will come with free games. Listed so far however it was mentioned to be NES or SNES games. Also, it was mentioned as just ONE game per month. Urm, you can definitely do much better than that Nintendo.

That’s all you missed!

So far that’s pretty much it. I’m off to writing a Nintendo Switch impressions post and posting it tomorrow hopefully. In the mean time, you better get ready for the Registration of Interest for the Switch. 😛
